Brought two wheels home last night from Yellow Bike. Had to wait around for city inspector to sign off new water heater so I thought I would kill some time in the garage working on my craft.
First wheel was a rim replacement. Went well. I replaced a badly warped rim with a not so warped used rim. Tensioning and truing were a bit tricky but I managed to pull it off. Some variations in spoke tension but nothing too wild.
Second wheel was a simple true job. Well, at least I thought it was. After repacking the hub I set the wheel in the stand and started applying oil to the spokes. Got about 3/4 way around the wheel. Oops. Missing spoke. That might be critical. And since I don’t have a stock of spokes handy I’ll have to defer the repair for a few days.
A short snack break and back to the garage. My folding bike needs some TLC.
