Red sky in the morning…

…sailor something something.

Rex riding into the sunrise.

So much for limericks about weather prediction.  Very nice day.  Another reminder of why we put up with the melt-fest that is July and August.

Monday morning shop is becoming busy.  We had most of the stands full and pulled some cash on bike and parts sales.  One of our earn-a-bike people just finished up the first part of his checklist and I helped him find a frame for his bike.  He’s actually using this to build a bike for his daughter.  We found a Free Spirit step through frame that was in pretty good shape.  Steel frame, original stem friction shifters, original center pull brakes.  Steel one piece bottom bracket and crank.  Basic transportation.  Should be functional in a few shops.

Helped another user find a bicycle to fix.  In addition to  fixing up bikes for sale, we will sell almost any bicycle in the shop “as-is.”  We assess the bike and give advice on what needs to be fixed.  Sometimes I will outline what additional parts might cost and then we negotiate a price.  We found a nice Trek 830 steel hybrid frame with most the components intact.  He’s going to transfer his current wheels to it.  Should be a good ride.

Look at all those forks

The only stumbling point was trying to find a road fork for another visitor.  He needed a 1″ threaded but none of our stock had the right length of steer tube.  We even went through the scrap pile to see if we could salvage something.  This is a project bike and he’s not in a huge hurry.  Said he would check back later.  I also gave him some advice on a couple of LBS to visit to see what they could offer on ordering a new fork.

Fun day

And I identified three more wheels to fix at my leisure in the garage shop.  All in all, a good day to get hands greasy.
