Another issue of Bicycling magazine arrived this week. This despite my multiple pleas to the publisher to stop sending me their ridiculous publication. This despite the fight I’m having with the third-party subscription service which continues to charge my credit card. Usually, I just place it in the single stream recycle bin. This morning, however, I needed reading material (never mind why).
The usual. Nothing surprising. Preponderance of tight lycra and stupidly expensive carbon. Mostly racing. A token of real cycling. Slick advertisements trying to convince people they need to spend more on their bike than one year of my college education cost. Didn’t trouble me too much. They have the right to publish this crap and people have the right to be bilked. I didn’t mind until I turned the page and found these:
Again, they have the right to choose their advertisers. And I understand that slick magazines are expensive to publish and distribute. But come on…
…do we really have to put up with the additional snake-oil of car marketing? Really?
