Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls….I give you Thorpe. Still deciding on what rear rack to install. I ran into a snag with the front fender. Can’t put both a fender and the front rack with the tires I chose (700 x 32). So I went with the rack because I want the bag for randonneuring.
Good work, Tim. Thorpe looks great.

Very handsome! I love the color.
Do you just not have enough clearance in the fork for both the fender and the rack? I run 700x32s on my Novara Randonee. I’ve had VO fenders on it, though now that I think about it, no front rack (yet). But I have cantis, so that might make a difference.
I’m running caliper brakes. Both the fender and the rack bracket attach to the brake bolt. Not enough clearance under the fork crown for both and the brake bolt isn’t long enough to take the rack bracket. But thanks to my favorite LBS, I think I’ve found a way to fix the problem (see comment below).
Lovely!!!
Love it Tim. Very classy and simple. Forget the rear rack unless you plan on touring. Is that a Berthoud bag?
I am a bit peeved about the clearance issue. 32′s are tiny. If you can’t run a fender and a rack and 32′s, something is really wrong. Get a different/retrofitted fork. Talk to your builder about this. Let’s compare notes at the June YB meeting.
Mateo.
the bag is from VO
I stopped by The Peddler on my test ride this morning. AJ said he had brake retaining nuts that are longer. That way I can bend the rack bracket up and use the brake bolt (bracket between brake and fork). This will give the clearance to put the fender on using the daruma. LBS to the rescue.
and I plan on doing some light camping and inn-to-inn, so rear rack eventually
Glad you found the longer bolt! I might have seen them around somewhere in my trawling of the internet.
I ended up doing almost the same thing, but not custom.
I have been sick of the constant jarring going up and down Metric so a couple weeks ago I picked up a Surly Disc Trucker. The steel frame and the geometry makes the ride *so* much smoother. Glad I got the disc upgrade, it stops wonderfully.
Went with the honey brooks tape and honey brooks b67 seat (with the springs). Pair of Nissan 2465 18-Ounce Stainless-Steel Hydration Bottles and a Delta Airzound 115 DB Air Horn in the third bottle cage. Topeak Road Morph G Bike Pump with Gauge currently under top bar, soon next to the water cage. Topeak MTX Trunk Bag DX with Side Panniers on a Topeak Super Tourist DX Tubular Rack. I loved the trunk bag on the old bike, but the super tourist rack has an extra bar for panniers my old rack lacked and I noticed quick. Pletscher Two-leg Kickstand. Added the SKS P45 Fender Set which work great.
Haven’t worried about a front rack yet.
Wonder if this will work. http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/582540_10151005804662908_209749724_n.jpg
