Control: Grocery Store
This is my most common utility ride. The nearest grocery store is a mere 2 miles away. Mongo loves to go to the grocery store. I think it’s all the admiring stares he gets from the motorists. Especially when he’s loaded up with retail food bounty. Today he got extra praise from a small group of rest home escapees.
That sure is a cool looking bike.
Observations
Done this route so many times, there’s not much to discover. But I did manage to make a couple of observations:
- what is it about parking lots that makes drivers lose their minds? Why are they compelled to drive like they’re out on the highway?
- when I went through driver’s education (lo these many eons ago) I was taught that if you missed a turn or an exit the best course of action was to continue on and not make any radical moves in a foolhardy attempt to make the turn. On this trip I witnessed at least 5 people make very unsafe, bizarre lane changes and stunt-driver like turns. Is it distraction from all the gadgets? Is it daydreaming? Is it substandard way-finding? I don’t get it.
Winter Cycling Challenge
Right on schedule. Two weeks, four controls.

Man, I want one of those. Nice load, Tim.
